Hashtags Have Arrived! Well, In a Way…

Users have long awaited the addition of hashtags in Threads. Yes, that Twitter/X alternative that you’ve probably heard about but haven’t joined yet…

Well, they finally got what they’ve been asking for…sort of. Threads has rolled out “topic tags” to all users worldwide (literally yesterday as we were typing this), providing more ways for users to find relevant discussions in the app.

Topic tags differ from hashtags on other platforms in a few ways. Users can only add one topic tag per post. They can also be created using multiple words, spaces, and special characters unlike traditional hashtags in other apps.

Give Threads a try. We think you’ll like it!

Maybe the “go f*** yourself” Approach Didn’t Work for Elon?

Last week, Elon Musk broke the internet after telling big brands to “go f*** yourself” during an interview at the New York Times DealBook Summit. Musk then claimed that losing big advertisers would be the death of X.

Now, we’re hearing a different story. X announced they would be turning to small and medium businesses for their advertising needs, claiming that was always part of their plan and will work better for them in the long run. That is probably just the politically correct way of saying “we’re out of options, it’s our only choice.”

Making Your Private Messages Actually “private”?? Who Would’ve Guessed!

Meta is starting to rollout end-to-end encryption for all personal chats and calls on Facebook Messenger. This makes messages more private and secure than ever before. Because apparently they weren’t actually secure before.

That makes me feel great.

This update to Messenger also offers additional functionality including the ability to edit messages, control read receipts, disappearing messages, higher quality photos and videos, faster voice messaging, and enhanced security.

Here We Go Again with TikTok

TikTok recently added several new features to its app. Users now have a customized feed option, which they can tell the app through text what content they want to see more or less of.

TikTok has increased video length, as users can upload videos up to 15 minutes long now. We literally cringe over this. Ugh.

This is a major shift from the original 15 second clip-length restriction.

Other TikTok updates include ending its $1 billion creator fund, allowing advertisers to display TikTok content on billboards, cinema, and other screens, and holiday creator cards.
